Cindy Jenson-Elliott, Clairemont resident and author of 2016 book "Antsy Ansel: Ansel Adams, a Life in Nature", "Dig In!", "Weeds Find a Way" and 14 other books for children, , will visit Field Elementary on February 22 from 9 – 10 a.m. for a presentation, and on March 1, 5 – 6  p.m. for Family Literacy Night as one of five free school visits she has offered to Title I schools for the 2016 -17 school year.

About Antsy Ansel: Ansel Adams, a Life in Nature, Christy Ottaviano Books/Henry Holt Publishers, NY, 2016:

As a child, Ansel Adams was antsy. He couldn’t sit still in school, his mind raced, and he was often ill. Doctors in early 20th century San Francisco recommended he be kept indoors in a darkened room to calm him down. But Charles Adams, Ansel’s father, had a revolutionary idea. He chose to remove his son from school, teach him at home, and give him free access to nature.

Antsy Ansel, Ansel Adams, a Life in Nature (Christy Ottaviano Books/Henry Holt Publishers), a picture book biography by local author Cindy Jenson-Elliott is the story of how Ansel Adams’s connection with nature shaped his life and career.

Cindy Jenson-Elliott, a graduate of La Jolla High School, Bowdoin College and SDSU,  is an environmental educator, teacher and garden educator who has spent her career leading children into nature in schools, museums, outdoor schools and gardens. Antsy Ansel is her 17th book for children. Her most recent picture books, Weeds Find a Way (Beach Lane Books/Simon and Schuster, 2014) and Dig In! ((Beach Lane Books/Simon and Schuster, 2016) are odes to the wonders of the ordinary, every-day aspects of nature– weeds and dirt.

When she is not writing, Jenson-Elliott teaches writing to children and adults at UCSD Extension, and in schools and recreational programs through her business Words To Go, (www.wordstogosd.com) and explores the wonders of nature in her own backyard.
