Chamber VP Janett Lewis-McWilliams, Chamber Board member Allen Boaz
The Club decided to join the Chamber to get to know more about the local business community, and to help spread the word about the great programs The Boys & Girls Clubs offer.
After a round of introductions and announcements, Chamber members and their guests learned more about the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego. They focus on Fun with a Purpose, providing activities that support and encourage Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles and Good Character among members.
In partnering with schools and the community they are adding a STEM lab & multipurpose room that will allow them to expand their Science, Technology, Engineering and Math activities so that members have a chance to learn skills they will be using in their future careers.
As elementary schools have been tasked with so many requirements and PE has become a once a week instead of every day activity, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego has implemented 30 minutes of Physical Education daily, called Fun Fitness. Along with sports and games, they have a set time every day where members learn the importance of physical activity and participate in PE activities daily.
For some of the Chamber members, it was their first visit to the Boys&Girls Club, and they came away impressed with the programs and people.
