Grand Re-Opening Community Event for Balboa Mesa Shopping Center Nov. 15th

Regency Centers “Thank You” Celebration for Clairemont Community to Feature Donations to Local Schools and Nonprofits Slated for Saturday, Nov. 15 – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Regency Centers announces the official grand re-opening celebration of the Balboa Mesa Shopping Center scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to all Clairemont residents and will feature a day of family fun filled with giveaways, food samples, music, kids’ activities, including face painting and a bounce house. A very special “Snow Queen” and “Snow Princess” will be on-site to visit, take pictures, and sing with young children and their families throughout the day. There will also be local high school marching bands and cheerleaders to provide entertainment and fun throughout the event.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m. there will be a short 20-minute program to include an official “thank you” from Regency to the community and a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Clairemont Chamber of Commerce and local elected officials. Regency Centers will also present a generous $5,000 donation to be allocated between the Clairemont Kiwanis Foundation/Clairemont Mesa Education Foundation, Clairemont High School Foundation, Horizon High School and Madison High School Foundation, as
a special “thank you” to the community for their patience and support throughout the entire revitalization process. The organizations will also have informational tables so guests can learn more about their missions and volunteer opportunities.

Located at 5500 Balboa Avenue in one of San Diego’s most populous areas, Balboa Mesa Shopping Center, celebrating its 45th anniversary this year, occupies over 210,000 square feet of space and serves a 3-mile radius of nearly 130,000 people. Redevelopment of the center, originally built in 1969, began May 1, 2013 and, in that time, Regency Centers filled every single vacancy. Regency Centers expects the revitalization will bring new life to the Balboa Mesa Shopping Center with an enhanced shopping experience, and a dramatic enhancement to the Balboa and Genesee intersection, which many consider to be a prominent gateway into the Clairemont Mesa area.

The LEED certified, eco-friendly renovation includes new shops and restaurants, as well as enhanced pedestrian connectivity, outdoor seating areas, parking, bioswales, lighting, landscaping, signage, exterior paint, and stone accents. New merchants include Boudin Bakery, Chicken Charlie’s FryBQ, Doctor’s Express Urgent Care, Great Clips, Jersey Mike’s Subs, Luna Grill, Ototo Sushi Company, Clairemont Smiles, Pieology Pizzeria, San Diego County Credit Union, The Habit Burger Grill, The Vitamin Shoppe, and 85°C Bakery Café. This will be the first San Diego location for Taiwan-based 85°C Bakery Café, and the first brick and mortar location for Chicken Charlie’s FryBQ, known from the San Diego County, Orange County and Los Angeles County fairs.

  1. I've seen a couple of other events in New York, but this was my first time in here. It was amazing! Great venue, it's smaller than those bigger places but it is still a fair sized venue. Food was great and I think it's recently renovated - it didn't seem old or anything.
