USD Toreros Basketball in Reach of the Postseason!

It has been an exciting season of basketball for the men and women of the University of San Diego, and as the season winds down the Toreros are looking to reach yet another milestone in what has already been a historic 2013-14 campaign.

The women started the season on a fifteen game winning streak and became the first nationally ranked basketball team in school history. The men gave us a number of epic games including coming a last second shot from upsetting San Diego State and later in the season defeating nationally ranked Gonzaga  for the first time since 2008. Four Toreros received All-West Coast Conference honors highlighted by First Team selections Johnny Dee and Amy Kame. Records also fell as Christopher Anderson became the all-time school leader in assists and Dee became the third highest scoring player in school history. With both Anderson and Dee returning for a senior season next year, more records could fall including Dee chasing the all-time scoring record.

But for now, the focus is still on the current season. The West Coast Conference Tournament took place this past weekend and while both Torero teams fought hard, both fell in the quarterfinals. The exciting news however is that both teams appear to have not yet played their final game of the year. Both are in contention to play in postseason tournaments, a major milestone as it would mark the first time since 2008 that both the men and women are playing in the postseason in the same season.

Even more exciting is that both are in position to host their first round games meaning you will have another chance to catch both the men and women in the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion before the season is done. The women are looking to secure a top seed in the Women’s NIT Tournament while the men have already accepted an invitation to the Men’s CIT Tournament and they will host their first round game this Tuesday evening, March 18th. It would mark the third consecutive appearance in the WNIT for women’s basketball and the first appearance in the CIT for the men. The women have had immense success in the WNIT in recent years including reaching the Final Four in 2012, while the men have reached the postseason for the first time since 2008.

If both the men and women get to host their tournament games you won’t want to miss either of these HUGE home games! Learn more by calling the ticket office at 619-260-7550 or visit www.usdtoreros.com. It’s TORERO TIME!
