USD Basketball is Back and the Toreros are Off to a Fast Start!

Chris Anderson
It’s that time of year again, college basketball is back! All over the country college campuses are abuzz with talk of the newest recruits, returning stars, predictions, and anticipation towards March Madness. The University of San Diego is no exception as the Toreros are looking to build momentum for what could be a very successful season.

Johnny Dee
The Toreros return a number of key players this after a season that saw them get red hot at the end of the year and make an eye opening run through the West Coast Conference tournament. This year the Toreros are one of the favorites to shock the country and challenge the traditional conference powers of Gonzaga, BYU, and Saint Mary’s. A large part of that optimism comes from the backcourt duo of point guard Chris Anderson and shooting guard Johnny Dee. The duo is regarded as one of the best pairs in the conference with Anderson’s court vision and ability to slash his way to the hoop perfectly complimenting Dee’s sharpshooting ability from anywhere on the court. This talent has already been on full display in the Toreros first two games of the year. The 2-0 Toreros are already getting
10 assists per game from Anderson and 22 points per game from Dee.

Meanwhile some key newcomers and returners are rounding out what will be a very dangerous roster.
Duda Sanadze of the Georgian national team is making an impact at forward already pouring in over
12 points per game. Senior Dennis Kramer is a force inside nearly averaging a double-double with
Duda Sanadze
8 rebounds and over 11 points per game. Jito Kok is looking to build off one of the most successful freshman seasons in program history as he continues to develop into the most feared shot blocker in the conference. He is already averaging over two blocks per game on the young season.

Others expected to make an impact are former Gonzaga guard Chris Sarbaugh and forward Thomas Jacobs, both making their Torero debuts this season. There is also a huge buzz about freshman Brett Bailey, a Spokane native who spurned local powerhouse Gonzaga to come play for the Toreros.

In a year where the traditional WCC powers are rebuilding or have question marks, the stars are aligned for the Toreros to turn heads with this exciting and deep roster. With so many exciting players each with their own elite skill set, the Toreros are ready to win and win now. You can catch this action LIVE now through early March in the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
