The boyfriend of a female employee at The Watering Hole, located on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard near Diane Avenue, visited the bar about 10 a.m. to drop something off for his girlfriend. When he entered through the back door, a man followed him in and aimed a handgun at the pair. The employee and her boyfriend ran out the front door and the suspect ran out the back, police said. No losses and no injuries were reported.
It was unclear if the employee or her boyfriend knew the would-be robber, described by police as a light-skinned black male in his early 20s with a thin build, wearing a white bandanna over his face, a black shirt and dark jeans.
The bar opens on Saturdays at 10 a.m. and closes at 2 a.m.
