The Kearny Mesa Lunar New Year Festival 2012 @ SEARS is a 3-day cultural and charitable community event whose mission is to promote the Asian cultural heritage during an important traditional holiday.

The grounds will be filled with games, rides, shows, contests, and more! The Kearny Mesa Lunar New Year Festival features traditional fun-filled family elements such as Asian Food, Lion Dances, Firecracker shows and Red-Envelope Giveaway, as well 14 exciting Carnival Rides, Games, Merchandise, and Hip-Hop, Lion Dance, and Talent Competitions.

The Lunar New Year is celebrated in many Asian communities, particularly those whose countries and territories have significant Chinese populations, such as Mainland China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Tibet, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and also in Chinatowns elsewhere.

Chinese New Year is considered a major holiday for the Chinese and has had influence on the new year celebrations of its geographic neighbors, as well as cultures with whom the Chinese have had extensive interaction. These include Koreans (Seollal), and Bhutanese (Losar), Mongolians (Tsagaan Sar), Vietnamese (Tết), and the Japanese before 1873 (Oshogatsu).

Part of the Festival's proceeds will go to ETA4, a cross-cultural non-profit organization that provides education to underserved children in Asia. ETA4 has charitable educational programs in Taiwan, Vietnam, and Korea.
